In these paintings of the pavilionned courtyard water gardens and intricate interiors of the Nasrid Palaces, I have tried to capture intense experiences of light, colour and atmosphere which refuse to be pinned down as visual description.

All four compositions emerged from an extended process of consistent re-working and detailed refinement.
Blue Fountain is a celebration of the luxuriant fusion of foliage, water and colonnaded patio gardens within the Nasrid Palace complex.

Window Over Granada reveals a rare view spreading out over the AlbaicĂn from inside the Alhambra. In the Hall of the Two Sisters, Sala de dos Hermanas, light streams across layered recesses leading up to the dizzying vaults of blue-grey and cream coffered domes.

In the Sala de Mocárabes which inspired the painting The Domain of Daydreams, the visual effect of the multi-facetted, interwoven domes is almost hallucinatory and continues to generate further interpretations.
